The Chestnut Restaurant was a beloved fine‑dining staple for both locals and visitors. For people who lived in Blowing Rock, it was the spot for special occasions, a place where you dressed up a little, lingered over cocktails, and felt part of the weekend scene. The food was exceptional, the service was flawless, and every visit felt like an experience worth savoring.
1995
Tim Knight, the restaurant scene isn't just a career—it's a calling. Opening a restaurant with his cousin on Main Street in Downtown Blowing Rock called “Knights on Main.” The restaurant fueled patron's appetites for almost 20 years, but with the expense of rent and the battles to upkeep a clean and well-working kitchen and with Tim being a young father, The restaurant closed down in 2014 and was vacant for several years.


2022
Real‑estate developer Steve Gillooly purchased the building and invested more than $3.5 million to modernize it while preserving its historic character. After taking the structure down to the studs, he reimagined it with a modern mountain aesthetic, blending contemporary finishes with the building’s original charm. Steve then partnered with former restaurant tenant Tim Knight to open Social on Main, now a popular spot for breakfast and lunch. The top two floors have been transformed into short‑term rentals for guests visiting historic downtown Blowing Rock.
